Our fire department was originally equipped with a 1962 John-Bean high-pressure fog pumper and home built tanker, constructed from a donated fuel tank mounted on a new GMC chassis. Department personnel fit the vehicle with a 350-gallon per minute pump, piping, valves, and hoses. Soon after, a DNR jeep was acquired and was built up as our brush truck.
In 1970, the department purchased a 1954 Howe 500 gallon per minute pumper from the Waterford Township fire department, which served the department for several years. In 1977 the department purchased a new Mack 1000 gallon per minute pumper, which is still in service today as our Engine #2. This pumper along with the addition of city water throughout the township in mid 1970 has since replaced the Howe apparatus.
When the department added medical services in 1982, a used GMC van was purchased as the original rescue squad. In 1990, the van was replaced by a 1986 ambulance, which was purchased from EMS of Saginaw. The ambulance was stripped, modified, and painted by department personnel. In September of 1999, a new EVI rescue unit was purchased to replace the old ambulance. This unit was equipped with a generator, floodlights, a JAWS unit, MFR required medical supplies, and additional rescue equipment.
In September 2002, the original 1962 truck was replaced with a new Pierce 1500 gallon per minute CAFS pumper which now servers as our Engine #1.
The department also has a 2003 Chevrolet 2500 Pickup for a Brush fire response unit and Squad, a 4X4 ATV, a rescue sled, and a small boat for water rescues.
