The James Township Fire Department was established in April of 1963 by a group of 23 brave, hard working individuals. At the time of our inception, the fire department consisted of a two bay station and two pieces of equipment. Short of space, two additional bays were added in the late 60's. In the first six months, our department responded to a total of 15 emergency calls. During the first full year of service, our department responded to 58 emergency calls.
Over the last 60 years, James Township has grown immensely. We have added two pieces of equipment along the way to bring our apparatus total to four. We now average (120) emergency calls per year of which, 80% are medical calls.
Currently our staff consists of 14 highly dedicated volunteer firefighters who take great pride in providing fire protection and medical first response to the nearly 2,100 residents that make James Township their home.
